Escort Radar Detectors

I think I've come to the conclusion these are crap. My wife has an Escort 8500. A couple of weeks ago, it started beeping and switching between city and highway. I checked it and the button was stuck. I took it apart and a small copper disc had gotten stuck and needed to be replaced. I called Escort and they won't sell me the .05 part. I have to send it in, to the tune of $80. I decided to buy another 8500 on E-bay for slightly less money. It arrives, I plug it in and guess what, same problem. I contacted the seller and am getting a refund. I called escort again, this time mentioning I now had 2 failures. They still wouldn't send me the part. I have had a Valentine 1 in my car for the past 12 years with no issues at all. I mentioned this to the Escort guy who said, "Well, sounds like you need to give them a call." Couldn't have said it better my self. The V1 isn't cheap, but all things considered, it's less expensive than the Escort.

I have a V1 too. I've had it for about 2 years now. One of the best investments I've ever made. Mine is trouble free as well.

I'm afraid to buy a radar detector. I generally watch my speed pretty close although it most likely would've saved me from a ticket last year.
